Perth Winter Arts Festival | 1st June to 31st August

Music, visual arts, theatre, film, dance and great nights out; Grace Knight, Benn Lee, free lunchtime concerts, jazz, galleries, photography, exhibitions.

Ok, maybe very general there - but some of my most favourite keywords! When I get more time I'll be looking through the programme (check it out here, www.perthwinterarts.com.au) for more info and specific events. Right now though, I'm just glad there's stuff to be done when it's *finally* starting to feel like winter!

Feel free to post reccomendations and suggestions for what we should see/hear/taste/feel!

The Maids | Last show this Saturday, 6th June

French artist Jean Genet’s 20th century work will be reinvigorated with this vibrant and original showcase of West Australian women artists, including an original sound design by Felicity Groom - winner, 2008 WA Top Song Competition for Triple J Unearthed.

Every night reality blurs with fantasy as Claire and Solange take turns pretending to be their mistress in a crazed ritual, fantasizing the murder of Madame.

With its evocative language, The Maids is a harrowing tale about the rituals of extravagance and the horrors of poverty, the agony of exclusion and the ecstasy of imagination.

A City of Perth Winter Arts Season event. Visit www.perthwinterarts.com.au for more.

Tickets $22, concession $15

Magnificent ~ experimental publishing platform

It's a new magazine-flyer-novel thingy, published four-monthly in Tassie. Magnificent "questions our relationship to people, identity and place by connecting extraordinary actions and everyday lives."

Should be interesting to see how it goes. It looks great and it celebrates everything local (from a Tasmanian perspective?). Each edition will turn around a single incident or significant issue.

Each edition of Magnificent is FREE to subscribers in 2009. Be quick, at last check there weren't many copies left!
